SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. — Rockies infielder Alexi Amarista was often overlooked because he’s only 5-feet-6. But he remained confident he would get a chance to prove he is not short on talent.
On January 25, 2007, the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim signed Amarista as an amateur free agent, assigning him to play rookie-level ball in the Dominican Summer League.
Amarista, now 27, said he could barely contain his emotions when he realized he was going to get his chance.
“I was very excited,” Amarista said. “It was a great feeling to get that call.
