Alexi Amarista officially signs one-year deal to be Rockies’ utility player

Utility player Alexi Amarista officially has a new baseball home.

Amarista, 27, signed a one-year deal with the Rockies Tuesday. The deal, which had been pending since Dec. 26, was made official after Amarista passed his physical. He’ll play for a $1.1 million salary in 2017, and is guaranteed a $150,000 buyout on a 2018 club option.

New Rockies manager Bud Black knows Amarista well, having managed him for more than four seasons in San Diego. The light-hitting Amarista’s best season was 2014, when he played in a career-high 148 games and hit .239 with a .
