Colorado Rockies fans knew that the starting rotation would be very different at the start of the 2024 season. With both Antonio Senzatela and Germán Márquez recovering from their respective Tommy John surgeries, neither would be available to start the season. Márquez isn’t expected back until after the All-Star break, and Senzatela may not pitch at all.
When rotation leader Kyle Freeland went down just four starts into the year, the Rockies needed someone to step up. However, it wasn’t just someone. Instead, two veterans have risen to the occasion with flying colors. Righty Cal Quantrill and lefty Austin Gomber have without a doubt been the Rockies’ two best starting pitchers through 46 games.
