A 60-game season was always in the cards according to Rob Manfred. Despite negotiations and the phrase “in good-faith,” apparently Manfred always knew there would only be 60 games. His exact statement (below) is dangerous with the possibility of a grievance filed by the players union.
“The reality is,” Manfred said, “we weren’t going to play more than 60 games no matter how the negotiations with the players went.”
This statement was made in an interview on The Dan Patrick Show, and Manfred later back peddled a bit while also claiming the negotiations weren’t “collaborative.
