The Rockies are no stranger to the MLB trade deadline. From the beginning, in their inaugural season, they weren’t afraid to make moves. Albeit Colorado’s deal with the Padres wasn’t a good one. In fact, it’s one that’s made several worst trades lists.
San Diego had dropped to near the bottom of the NL West and began unloading a number of players, including all-stars Fred McGriff and Gary Sheffield.
Colorado wanted to bolster its pitching and looked to the sinking Padres. The Rockies sent catcher prospect Brad Ausmus and pitchers Andy Ashby and Doug Bochtler to San Diego for starters Greg Harris and Bruce Hurst.
