Whatever hope remained for Major League Soccer to resume play by mid-May was dealt a serious blow Tuesday when the league announced that scenario as “extremely unlikely” amid the coronavirus pandemic.
In the same statement, MLS conceded it is becoming increasingly difficult to envision a full 34-match season being played in 2020. All of which leaves one to wonder what an abbreviated campaign might look like.
MLS’ season typically runs from late February to November, but the league has played its championship match in December in the past. There are a myriad of hurdles to clear before play can resume, but the first few are basic: health and fitness.
