May, 1997: A month before graduating from high school, Howard played for the North Jersey Imperials - United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues (USISL) - in his first professional game.
February 2, 1998: Howard was assigned to the Metrostars (now New York Red Bulls) as a Project-40 player.
