COMMERCE CITY — The best defense in Major League Soccer has a new leader. The Secretary of Defense has landed in Colorado.
The MLS-leading Rapids on Tuesday unveiled U.S. national team goalkeeper Tim Howard, the highest-paid and most recognizable player in franchise history.
Dressed in a sharp charcoal blazer and a burgundy tie, the Rapids’ new No. 1 goalkeeper acknowledged some tough conversations with the team’s front office in finalizing the deal, but said there was no other club he wanted to join.
“Everyone’s bought into this project,” Howard said. “Look, when you don’t get the results in the last couple of years, it’s easy to downplay it.
