Tim Howard is the third goalkeeper from the Colorado Rapids to be selected for the MLS All-Star Game, as he gets set to face the mighty Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago on Wednesday night.
He follows in the footsteps of Joe Cannon (2006) and Clint Irwin, though the latter did not play when the All-Stars took on Tottenham Hotspur at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in 2015.
For Howard, this will be his fourth appearance in an All-Star Game. He was with the Metrostars when he played in this exhibition contest in 2001 and 2002. The Rapids’ number one was then voted MVP in the 2009 edition, after saving three penalties in the shootout to help Everton defeat the All-Stars at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah.
