A round-the-clock watch over Summit County firefighter Ken Jones’ body will come to an end Friday during a private funeral for the 20-year veteran of Summit Fire and EMS who died Saturday.
About 120 firefighters have taken shifts sitting with Jones’ body as part of a traditional honor watch since he was killed in a fall from the roof of a five-story condominium as he fought a fire at Copper Mountain.
“It gives you time to reflect and think about the brother or sister that you lost, and then you’re there with them, and of course if family or friends come by, you’re there to assist them,” said South Metro Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Jerry Rhodes.
