The Colorado Rapids on Friday announced they have terminated the contract of German attacker Stefan Aigner.
Aigner, 30, had fallen out of favor with new head coach Anthony Hudson. The two had a “less than harmonious conversation” in early April during a training session, according to a report from Matt Pollard of Last Word on Sports, and Aigner hadn’t seen the field since.
Aigner, who was the fourth-highest paid player on the team with a base salary of $800,000, had the remainder of his three and a half-year contract voided.
The German playmaker was acquired during the summer transfer window in 2017.
