Rapids trade away No. 2 overall SuperDraft pick; trade for No. 1 allocation ranking in separate deals

The Colorado Rapids are wheeling and dealing at the 2016 MLS SuperDraft.

The Rapids on Thursday traded its way to the No. 1 spot in the MLS allocation ranking, which gives the club first crack at signing U.S. national team players who enter the league, or former MLS players who are returning to the league after previously being transferred for more than a $500,000 fee.

Typically, teams that trade up to the No. 1 spot in the allocation ranking have a player in mind they aim to sign.

ESPN analyst Taylor Twellman speculated the move could mean the Rapids were positioning themselves to sign U.
