COMMERCE CITY — Rapids striker Kevin Doyle returned to action for the first time in a month to contribute an insurance goal that blunted a furious Seattle comeback attempt and Jermaine Jones scored his second goal in two games Saturday as the Rapids defeated the Sounders 3-1 at Dick's Sporting Goods Park for their third consecutive victory.
Doyle, a late substitute, scored on a toe-poke volley in the 86th minute. Colorado had been desperately protecting a 2-1 lead with the Sounders mounting one dangerous foray after another in the game's late going.
The Rapids (5-2-1) are 4-0 at home.
