Rapids’ Pablo Mastroeni on U.S. Soccer Hall of Fame ballot for first time

Rapids’ legend Pablo Mastroeni has been nominated to the National Soccer Hall of Fame ballot for the first time, U.S. Soccer announced Wednesday.

The former U.S. international appeared in two World Cups (2002, 2006) and won the Gold Cup with the U.S. in 2007. Mastroeni, the longest-tenured captain in team history, is also the Rapids’ all-time leader in games (225) and minutes played (18,669), and he lifted the MLS Cup with the Rapids in 2010.

Former Rapids goalkeeper Joe Cannon is also among the first-time candidates on the 33-player ballot. He ranks third on the club’s all-time goalkeeping list for wins (29), games (86) and minutes played (7,584).
