The Colorado Rapids have made a draft day trade for Jeremy Kelly, the team announced during Thursday’s MLS SuperDraft. The University of North Carolina star was originally selected by the Montreal Impact with the ninth overall pick.
The Rapids originally had the 11th pick, which they traded to Nashville SC for 75K in General Allocation Money (GAM.) They then used the 75K in GAM to trade for Kelly, who was their No. 1 target entering the day.
Kelly, 22, was born in Prague and is expected to play right back. He will skip his senior season with the Tar Heels to join the Rapids.
