Rapids goalkeeper Zac MacMath out 4-6 weeks

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Zac MacMath on Tuesday underwent successful surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee and is expected to miss 4-6 weeks, the club announced.

It was not disclosed how or when MacMath tore his meniscus.

The 25-year-old has started in goal whenever Tim Howard is unavailable. He has seven MLS starts this season, including the Rapids’ last two games — Saturday’s 1-0 loss to the San Jose Earthquakes and the July 22 draw with Toronto FC, 1-1. He’s also appeared in two U.S. Open Cup matches this season.

MacMath started the first 16 games in 2016 before Howard arrived in Commerce City and was statistically one of the best keepers in the MLS.
