Dillon Serna, the Rapids’ homegrown player, had been itching to score all night. He had several chances, but couldn’t connect until the 84th minute, when Marco Pappa’s corner kick was deflected to Serna at the top of the box. Serna shot the ball on the first touch with his right foot and it deflected off a Colorado Springs Switchbacks defender before making its way into the net.
The Rapids defeated the Switchbacks FC 1-0 in the fourth round of the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup at Dick’s Sporting Goods park Tuesday night.
The Rapids were short-handed without defender Bobby Burling, Jared Watts and Sean St.
