COMMERCE CITY — The Colorado Rapids announced their U.S. Open Cup matchup on Friday.
The Rapids are set to take on New Mexico United of the USL on June 12th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. New Mexico advanced to the fourth round — where MLS teams begin play — thanks to its controversial win over the Colorado Springs Switchbacks, who are the Rapids’ minor league affiliate.
The U.S. Open Cup is a knock-out cup competition and the oldest ongoing nation-wide soccer tournament in the United States. This is the 106th edition of the tournament that allows teams from all over America’s soccer pyramid compete for one title.
