In the first match of the 2016 season, the Rapids' Special Olympics Unified team fell to Philadelphia Union’s Special Olympics team 5-7 on Saturday, May 28th at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park.
Saturday’s action opened with a short pre-game warmup from both teams, followed by a full precession and the reading of the Special Olympics athlete oath by Morgan Butler. The teams then took the field for what would be a high-scoring affair.
Off to a roaring start, Jehbleh Jah of the Philadelphia Union scored first in the 6th minute, but the Rapids answered right back with a 7th minute strike by Vincent Egan.
