COMMERCE CITY — Lost in the Colorado Rapids’ winless start through eight games has been the magnificent play of their striker. Acquired from Vancouver in a December trade, 34-year-old Kei Kamara has been a rare bright spot.
Scoring five goals thus far, Kamara has added an offensive dynamic that has been missing for some time. But he himself is in rare form, too. Kamara has scored four goals over the past four matches — something he has never done in his MLS career, which started way back in 2006.
During his hot streak, he became the fifth all-time goal scorer in league history and has — more importantly for now — become a beacon for leadership among the club.
