Manuel “Junior” Agogo, who played striker with the Colorado Rapids from 2000-01, died Thursday. He was 40.
The Ghana-born Agogo was acquired from the Chicago Fire by the Rapids for a 2001 third-round draft pick on April 10, 2000. He scored 11 goals in 39 appearances with Colorado before he traded to San Jose for midfielder Chris Carrieri.
“Players of his age (20) and talent aren’t available that often,” former Rapids coach Glenn Myernick told The Denver Post after the trade.
Agogo was best-known for his tenures with the Bristol Rovers and Nottingham Forest in England.
