Colorado Rapids fell just short in their opening game at the Generation adidas Cup Champions Division in Frisco on Friday, suffering a 2-1 loss to Spanish side Malaga CF.
Having had a strong shout for a penalty turned down, and missed out in a one-on-one with the Malaga goalkeeper, the Rapids were frustrated to go in at the break 2-0 down. Matches are played as 35 minute halves.
Stefan Deleone struck for the Rapids after the interval and they were an even match for Malaga, but the second would evade them.
“It’s a bit disappointing,” said U16 coach, Chris Cartlidge.
