The Colorado Rapids on Tuesday named Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC as their new USL affiliate.
The Switchbacks replace the Charlotte Independence, which was the Rapids’ affiliate for the last four seasons.
“This is an exciting time for soccer in the region and we believe that this affiliation will not only be beneficial from an on-field performance and player development perspective for both clubs, but will also create a platform that fosters the growth of the sport in the state of Colorado,” Pádraig Smith, Rapids executive vice president and general manager, said in a statement.
The Switchbacks will have four season-long loan players from the Rapids, as well as additional players on short-term loans from the MLS club.
