Colorado Rapids announced today that the club has sent goalkeeper John Berner on a season-long loan to Charlotte Independence of the United Soccer League (USL).
“We feel this is a good time for John to get game sharpness following his offseason injury," said Brian Crookham, Rapids Senior Director of Soccer Development. “John is a talented goalkeeper and we look forward to monitoring his progress during his time on loan.”
Last season, Berner appeared in 17 matches for the Independence, registering 44 saves and four shutouts, while posting a 6-5-6 record. Berner was named USL Player of the Week in Week 7 following a 1-0 victory over Louisville City FC in which he made six saves.
