The Colorado Rapids sent midfielder Marcelo Sarvas to D.C. United on Monday in exchange for targeted allocation money.
Sarvas, 34, played in 25 games for the Rapids last season after spending the three previous years with the LA Galaxy, where he won two MLS Cups.
He scored twice after missing the beginning of the season following knee surgery.
"Marcelo brings MLS experience and a veteran presence to our group," said D.C. United general manager Dave Kasper. "He is a tenacious player who has been among the top central midfielders in the league in recent years, and we welcome him to our family.
