Charlotte Independence, the Rapids’ USL affiliate, extended their unbeaten run to 11 games on Saturday as they defeated Louisville City 3-1 at home to move top of the Eastern Conference.
They lead Charleston Battery and Tampa Bay Rowdies by two points, and have two games in hand. Louisville began the day in third, one point behind the Independence. They slip to fourth, four points off the pace, though having played one game less than Mike Jeffries’ side.
Louisville were the last team to beat Charlotte, with a 1-0 win back on June 7. Since then, the new Eastern Conference leaders have gone 8-0-3, scoring 26 goals while giving up just eight.
