Qualifiers for the 2020 U.S. Open Cup kick-off in Colorado this weekend with a match-up between two local favorites, FC Denver and Harpos FC (now FC Boulder Harpos).
Eighty of the 88 amateur clubs across the country play this weekend, while the other eight teams earned first-round byes and will begin qualification in October. According to the USOC website, “byes were determined by either geographical considerations (two clubs), the result of being randomly selected (five teams), or due to the ineligibility of an opponent (one team) after Izee Auto FC recently withdrew from the Maryland Major Soccer League prior to the start of the fall season.
