Tyson Summers to be hired as Colorado defensive coordinator

According to several sources close to the situation, Tyson Summers will replace DJ Eliot as the new Buffaloes defensive coordinator in 2019. The news comes a week after Mel Tucker was introduced as head coach, and Eliot decided to join Les Miles’s staff at Kansas.

Like newly hired offensive coordinator, Jay Johnson, Summers brings years of coaching experience to CU. This past season he served as a defensive quality coordinator under Tucker. The year and a half prior, he was the head coach for FCS school Georgia Southern. He had a rough go of it as a head coach, though, going 5-13 before being dismissed halfway through his second season at the helm.
