EUGENE, Ore. — Former University of Colorado Buffalo Laura Thweatt recorded a fifth place finish in the women's 10,000-meter run final on Saturday afternoon at the U.S. Olympic Track & Field Team Trials, barely missing a spot on the U.S. roster for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.
Thweatt ran a brilliant race, finishing in 32 minutes, 26.11 seconds, but unfortunately it was not fast enough to earn one of the top three spots to advance to the Olympics.
For the majority of the race, Thweatt was in the top third. She dropped down to 11th with 19 laps remaining, but just a short time later, she was up to second after a big move.
