GWANGJU, South Korea - University of Colorado runner Sara Sutherland recorded a fifth place finish in the 5,000-meter run on Saturday at the World University Games.
Sutherland was the top American in the race, finishing in 16:06.94, a season-best. The time was just over three seconds off the winner’s time, 16:03.29, which was run by the Czech Republic’s Kristina Maki. It was a very close finish with the top seven runners finishing within four seconds of each other. The seventh place finisher, Japan’s Natsuki Omori, finished in 16:07.57.
