EUGENE, Ore. – University of Colorado senior Sara Sutherland earned a spot in the 1,500-meter finals on Saturday at the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after clocking a time of 4:16.97 Thursday afternoon in the semifinals.
The Dallas, Texas native recorded a runner-up finish to take one of the five automatic qualifying positions from the first heat, finishing second to the Pac-12 and reigning NCAA Champion Shelby Houlihan, who finished in 4:16.87.
Sutherland started the race in the back of the pack, but moved up to the middle by the halfway point. Entering the bell lap, she had pulled herself up to second and stayed there.
