The original Heisman Trophy presented to Colorado's Rashaan Salaam in 1994 will be offered in an online auction, with a portion of the proceeds being donated for CTE research.
SCP Auctions announced Tuesday that the trophy won by the late Salaam will be a part of an exclusive online auction, which opens Jan. 8 and concludes Jan. 20 at www.scpauctions.com.
Salaam, CU's only Heisman Trophy winner, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Dec. 5, 2016. He was 42 years old.
According to a press release from SCP Auctions, Salaam sold his Heisman Trophy to a sports memorabilia dealer in 2013, who then sold it to its present owner later that year.
