ALBUQUERQUE/SPOKANE — Colorado track and field kicked off a split weekend here with the sprinters, hurdlers and combined events athletes in action at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic while the throwers headed to the Washington State Open.
The highlight of the day came from Avery McMullen finishing second in a highly competitive pentathlon. McMullen, the CU school record holder in the event, scored 4,160 point. She picked up more than 1,000 of her points in the 60 hurdles, another event she owns the CU record in, running 8.32 seconds. She was the top collegiate athlete in both the hurdles and the long jump where she went 5.
