BOULDER — Already touted as potentially the best women’s cross country team the University of Colorado has ever assembled, the Buffs backed up expectations at the Rocky Mountain Shootout on Saturday with added inspiration from two past stars.
The official starters at CU’s annual home cross country meet were Jenny Simpson and Emma Coburn, who won bronze medals at the Rio Olympics, Simpson in the 1,500 meters and Coburn in the steeplechase. Simpson set CU’s home course record (19:25) in 2009.
“It’s awesome,” said senior Erin Clark, who became the third woman to break 20 minutes on the CU course, winning in 19:54 as CU took the first four places in the women’s 5.
