HONOLULU — Throughout the offseason, the Colorado football team never said a word about trying to collect style points.

All the Buffaloes cared about was winning games.

In Thursday night's season opener, the Buffs didn't get either one.

Looking painfully familiar to its fans, CU piled up a bunch of mistakes, in several different varieties, and dropped its opener, 28-20 against host Hawaii in front of a sparse crowd at Aloha Stadium.

CU had three turnovers, costly penalties, dropped passes and more than a few adventures in the kicking game. For a team that claimed it was more mature and experienced than in years past, it was a stunning collection of miscues.
