In the last three seasons, Oregon has gone from Heisman Trophy to hurry-fixes at college football’s most important position.
Dakota Prukop, who will line up at quarterback for the Ducks when they host Colorado in the teams’ Pac-12 opener Saturday, is the second consecutive graduate transfer to start under center for Oregon. Prukop, who played three seasons at Montana State and earned his diploma early, follows in the footsteps of Vernon Adams, another FCS transfer from Eastern Washington who performed well for the Ducks last season.
While the Ducks have taken recent advantage of a rule that allows a player to graduate, transfer and play one season at their new school without sitting out, they are hardly the only ones in college football hopping on the trend.
