BOULDER — The sweetest sound of this Colorado basketball season can be heard when forward Evan Battey puts a defender on his hip, spins and scores, as his mom joyously shouts: “Yeah, baby!”
This is the tale of a young athlete who never feels entitled to anything, because Battey knows a stroke could have killed him at age 19.
On a Buffs team on the rise, nobody has come further faster than a 6-foot-8, 264-pound redshirt freshman who has averaged 10 points and four rebounds during the last half-dozen games.
This is the kind of minor miracle that makes us love sports.
