Former University of Colorado assistant coach Joe Tumpkin pleaded guilty Friday in his domestic violence case, finalizing a deal that had been the subject of months of back-and-forth between attorneys and his victim.
Tumpkin pleaded guilty in a Broomfield courtroom to one count of misdemeanor third-degree assault. The charge includes the dates from Feb. 27, 2015, through Nov. 20, 2016, and acknowledges domestic violence.
In exchange for the plea to the new count, prosecutors dropped the original eight counts of assault, including five counts of felony second-degree assault.
Tumpkin, who is free on bond, is now scheduled to be sentenced April 25, and will undergo a pre-sentence investigation and domestic violence evaluation.
