The women’s distance medley anchor legs at the NCAA indoor track and field championships came down to a battle of athletes with Colorado ties Friday night.
Leading at the bell lap was former Air Academy star Katie Rainsberger, now a freshman at Oregon who finished fourth at the NCAA cross country championships in November. Closely behind her was former Niwot star Elise Cranny, a college junior anchoring for Stanford, who edged by her in the final turn on the 200-meter banked Gilliam Indoor Track in College State, Texas.
But then in the homestretch came Dani Jones, a sophomore with the University of Colorado originally from Phoenix, who outleaned Cranny at the line to win in 11:00.
