Former University of Colorado running back Rashaan Salaam captivated fans and opponents on the football field with his bursts of quickness and raw athleticism. Salaam’s life was cut short on Monday but the legacy of his accomplishments in Boulder will never be forgotten. Outside of football he’ll be remembered as a kind, outgoing and caring person to anyone he came in contact with.

When Salaam left Colorado, he was just the forth player in college football history to surpass 2,000 rushing yard in a season. In 1994 as a junior, he ran for 2,055 yards despite being pulled early by coach Bill McCartney in five games and ran away with the Heisman Trophy that year by a margin of 284 votes.
