BOULDER — It's been a long time since Herb Orvis played his last football game, but nearly four decades after hanging up his cleats, he can still remember the sound of the band, the fans in the stands and the whistle that signals the start of the game.
"When the whistle blows, it's a real exciting moment," he said.
Friday was another exciting moment for the former Colorado star, as he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame.
"It was a total surprise today," Orvis, 69, said in a phone interview from his Goodyear, Ariz.
