Safety Mikial Onu came to the Buffaloes from the SMU Mustangs and immediately made an impact on a Colorado defense that struggled to find its footing in the first contest under head coach Mel Tucker. Colorado State was driving and looking to take a lead over the Buffs on their second possession of the game when Onu came up with a big interception on a pass intended for Warren Jackson. Onu headed to the sideline, was draped with the new “turnover robe”, threw a few punches at a punching bag and “Gimme 2 Claps” was born.
Whatever you think about the trend of themed “turnover props” that has propagated throughout the college football world since the Miami Hurricanes debuted the turnover chain a few season ago, it’s hard to deny that the “Gimme 2 Claps” phrase and the defender hitting a heavy bag after a turnover gets the players excited and could be a rallying cry for the 2019 defense.
