Stacy Patterson, a former CU Buffs defensive tackle during the mid-1990s, died “unexpectedly” Sunday morning in Denver, the university announced. He was 46.
The cause of death has yet to be determined, according to a news release from the university, and will be disclosed at a later date.
Current CU head coach Karl Dorrell, then an assistant under Bill McCartney, recruited Patterson out of Jones County High School in Macon, Ga., as part of CU’s 1993 recruiting class. He lettered at defensive tackle for two seasons from 1995-96.
“We are all in shock of the news and one of our great people we know was taken much too soon,” Dorrell said in a release sent out by the university Monday.
