HONOLULU — In the end, the Colorado Buffaloes made it close, but they couldn’t quite close the deal.
As a result, the Buffaloes dropped a 28-20 decision to Hawaii in their season opener, a game in which the Buffs gave themselves plenty of chances — and just as often, gave those chances away.
The result was disappointing opener for the Buffs, who entered the game with big expectations, determined to erase memories of a disappointing 2014.
But instead of a fast start, the Buffs fell behind in the first few minutes of the game — thanks to an early blocked punt — and played catch-up all night long.
