Darrin Chiaverini is staying put.
Chiaverini, a candidate to replace Mel Tucker and a former assistant head coach of the Buffs, will return to the CU staff for 2020, new Buffs football coach Karl Dorrell announced Thursday in a statement.
Chiaverini, 42, is one of four coaches on the 2019 staff Dorrell says he will retain, along with Tyson Summers, last fall’s defensive coordinator; Brian Michalowski, Tucker’s outside linebackers coach; and Darian Hagan, the running backs coach for 2019.
Dorrell said he wouldn’t announce specific responsibilities for the retainees until the staff’s remaining six assistant positions are filled.
