While Alina Hartmann's teammates at Colorado are enjoying a little time off this weekend to celebrate the nation's birthday, she will be representing her country playing for Germany in the FIBA U-20 European Championships in Spain.
Hartmann, a product of Bamberg, Germany, spent her freshman season as an effective role player off the bench for the Buffs under coach Linda Lappe last season. She is spending the entire summer back home, aside from the time she has dedicated to playing for the German national team.
The U-20 championships begin Thursday and run through next week. Hartmann and her German teammates will play Poland, Serbia and Russia in pool play starting Thursday.
