CU freshman Isaiah Oliver, in his decathlon debut, sits just one point out of the lead in Section B after the first day of the California Invitational combined event Wednesday in Azusa, Calif.
Oliver, who finished with 3,580 points, recorded four top-five finishes, including a win in the 400 meters in 49.32 seconds and a runner-up finish in the 100 in 11.12. He took third in both the long jump and shot put.
"Isaiah is doing great for being one day out of football," assistant coach Lindsay Malone said. "His prospects look fantastic and I'm really excited to get to work with him for the next few weeks to see what we can come up with.
