CU men's basketball: Buffs hold off BYU

Head coach Tad Boyle called it his team's toughest test since the season-opener a month ago.

The Colorado Buffaloes passed with flying colors.

CU used a stellar perimeter defensive performance to build a big lead and then held off Brigham Young down the stretch, recording a 92-83 nonconference victory Saturday night at the Coors Events Center.

Consecutive baskets by Xavier Talton, including a 3-pointer, to close the first half gave the Buffs a 38-25 lead at the break. CU seemingly broke the game open for good by reeling off a 13-0 run to open the second half while holding BYU without a field goal for the first five minutes of the frame.
