DENVER — — Shay Fields was expected to provide the deep threat as the counterpoint to Nelson Spruce's steady production as the go-to possession receiver.
Yet through CU first two games, Fields' contributions were more pedestrian than electric. That changed in a hurry Saturday night against Colorado State in the annual Rocky Mountain Showdown.
Fields thrilled the CU portion of the Sports Authority Field crowd late in the first half with a picture-perfect grab on a streak pattern down the left sideline. The play clearly jump-started the Buffs' previously struggling offense and proved to be a turning point in CU's 27-24 overtime victory.
