The University of Colorado track and field team kicked off the 2017 outdoor season strong as Matthew Denton won the hammer throw Friday at Potts Field.
Denton took home the event title with a 179-9.75 mark that was over five meters farther than the next competitor. Denton's mark earned him a PR in the event beating his previous distance of 168-3 from his 2015 season. Teammate Greyson Webber finished in second place with a toss of 162-8.75.
Elisa Grandemange had a solid afternoon placing second in both her events. Grandemange started her afternoon with the javelin where she threw for a 126-11.
